A Family Legacy In American Infrastructure
Construction and engineering have been part of the Kernan family story for generations. From Patrick Kernan’s father’s highway and bridge work at Kernan Construction to the next generation at Kernan Engineering, that tradition continues today through Kernan Construction & Infrastructure.
Our Family’s Construction Heritage
Our family’s roots in American infrastructure reach back to ancestors who worked on the Erie Canal and practiced the trade of stonecutting. Across generations, that connection to building continued in workshops, homes, highways, and bridges.
Patrick Kernan’s paternal grandfather was a machinist who owned his own business and continued working in the trade until retirement. His maternal grandfather was a farmer who also built Sears, Roebuck houses outside the growing season. Both brought skilled, hands-on work to their families’ livelihoods.
Patrick’s father carried that tradition into civil engineering through Kernan Construction, working on highways and bridges during the 1950s through the 1970s. Patrick’s older brother later owned Kernan Engineering, a business continued today by Patrick’s nephews.
Kernan Construction & Infrastructure begins a new chapter inspired by this family heritage. Led by Patrick, whose background includes 25 years of construction experience, the company focuses on concrete, paving, drainage, and underground utilities. Our approach emphasizes practical planning, clear communication, and careful project execution.
